MAPUSA
Formation of the market committee will be viewed with keen interest even as election to various committees of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) will be held at a special meeting convened on November 16.
At least six committees will be set up during the meeting, of which election to the Standing Committee and the Market Committee will be crucial.
Committees for planning and development, public works and sanitation, public street lighting and environment, garden and open spaces will also be set up during the meeting.
“The Standing Committee will have six members, including the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, while the other committees will comprise of five members each,” informed MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari
Besides the Standing Committee, the election to the Market Committee always draws special interest in Mapusa.
MMC Vice-Chairperson, Marlene D’Souza had recently said that reorganizing the Mapusa market was one of the top priorities of the council.
Speaking to The Goan, she had said it was a matter of concern that Goans could not find a place in Mapusa market.
She also said that the market was flooded with people from outside the State, who have been doing brisk business, sometimes, at the cost of local vendors.
Many senior councillors vie for the top post of the market committee for reasons best known to them.
According to the chairperson, this council’s first ordinary council meeting will be held on November 20.
