Work currently being carried out across streets in the capital city has posed bottlenecks for the flow of traffic along several internal roads, a situation worsened by the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and related activities.
Traffic snarls, especially along 18th June road and further towards St Inez, with work at the Caculo island junction virtually reducing the width by half are a common feature.
At several locations in the city, traffic is impeded by debris dumped on roads from dug up footpaths which are being redeveloped and paved with interlocking tiles under the 'smart city' work.
In some spots, contractors have excavated sections of the roads for the residual work of the new sewerage chamber network built over the last two years.
An IPSCDL official however claimed that the work is being hurried up and obstructions to traffic will be cleared by Monday.
Earlier on Friday, commuters were caught unawares in serpentine queues of bumper-to-bumper traffic when an IFFI related programme showcasing the 'best of Goa's Carnival and Shigmo festivals' blocked half of the DB Marg along the Mandovi River promenade.
