PANAJI: The Congress party has been barred from holding protests in Panaji for six months. The order from the local authority comes after the leaders held a demonstration at Azad Maidan amid the ongoing International Film Festival of India and the Exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier.
While the MLAs including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao were missing from the protest held against government's failure to order judicial probe in jobs for cash scam, 23 protesting leaders including South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes and Goa Congress President Amit Patkar were detained.
They were subsequently released on personal bond.
Reacting to the order, GPCC President Amit Patkar stated that they will hold the protests elsewhere in Goa.
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes raised apprehensions that if they don’t speak out, government will continue to engage in alleged scams. "Our fight will continue,” he said.
