Sullying the village environs

Sullying the village environs

The beautiful coastal village of Benaulim is getting dirtier day by day courtesy the garbage, construction debris and the obtrusion of the beach by shack owners. There has been a spurt in building activity in the village owing to which tonnes of construction waste is being generated which is not disposed off but is being just piled up on the roadside by callous contractors, why the biggest pile can be seen dumped near the Holy Trinity church, so much for ‘cleanliness is next to Godliness’.

Also now that the tourist season is in full swing, beach shack owners encroach upon the beach putting their sunbeds and tables much beyond the capacity permitted per the license agreement. As a result there is hardly any space to walk on the beach for users especially during high tide. Water sports operators are the other culprits cluttering up the beach by stacking their equipment across the available stretches. Repeated complaints to the police authorities and the CM have yielded zilch results. Truly ‘Goa mein sub chalta hai’.
