Boosting tourism in Goa: Practical suggestions

In response to Robert Castellino’s insightful letter in ‘Open Space’ titled ‘Goa Tourism: What Appeals, What Repels Tourists’ (The Goan Everyday, Saturday, November 23, 2024), several measures can be taken to enhance Goa’s tourism experience effectively. Firstly, it is essential to enforce the use of digital meters for all taxis, rickshaws, and motorbike taxis. Heavy fines should be imposed on those who refuse, with doubled penalties for repeat offenders. Additionally, all buses must issue proper tickets to ensure transparency and accountability. To address overcrowding, joint/vestibule buses suited to Goa’s roads should be introduced.

Innovative transport solutions can further transform travel in Goa. Railway buses that operate on both tracks and roads, amphibious buses capable of travelling on land and water, and a metro system for faster transit across the State should be considered. Seaplanes can also be introduced to improve connectivity between Goa and other Indian states. Infrastructure development is equally important, with the construction of dedicated roads, flyovers, highways, sea links, and underpasses to improve accessibility to different areas.

Implementing these initiatives can significantly boost Goa’s tourism industry, offering a smoother, more enjoyable experience for all travellers.
