A local of Majorda was arrested in a robbery case that took place in Siolim around two-and-half months back, Anjuna Police informed.
The alleged accused has been identified as Agostinho Carvalho, a resident of Majorday and who has been notorious for committing robberies.
Anjuna Police received a complaint on June 24 that an unknown person had snatched cash Rs 40,000 from the complainant.
Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi informed that the complainant, a driver of a tempo along with a helper was engaged in delivering milk packets in Siolim, Morjim, Mandrem and Arambol area.
According to police, while returning back after delivering the milk packets the tempo driver was stopped near the SFX High School, Siolim at around 8 am by a person riding a scooter. He then began arguing with the driver (complainant) and then snatched the cash from the complainant’s pocket and fled from the spot, police informed.
Anjuna Police registered an offence under section 356 and 379 of the IPC and began investigating the case. The complainant identified the alleged accused Agostinho Carvalho after he was shown his photograph as the accused used the same modus operandi several times earlier.
Anjuna Police immediately arrested the accused and also recovered and attached the scooter used to commit the crime. Further investigation is in progress.
