Nearly a year after an armed gang robbed a doctor’s house in Mapusa, followed by arrests, the Crime Branch (CB) has obtained permission from the trial court to add another Bangladeshi national as an accused and file a supplementary chargesheet in the case.
District Judge-I and Additional Sessions Judge, North Goa, at Merces on Wednesday allowed an application filed by CB Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar seeking to array Sohail Khan, a resident of Bagerhat in Bangladesh, as an additional accused. The court granted the application.
The residence of doctor Mahendra Ghanekar at Ganeshpuri, Mapusa was robbed on October 7, 2025 with the complainant alleging that around six to seven armed men allegedly broke open the metal grills of the house, restrained all family members by tying them with cloth strings, assaulted them and threatened to kill them before fleeing with valuables.
Gold ornaments, silver articles, cash and a car, with the total value estimated at around Rs 35 lakh, were stolen, prompting a massive search operation by the police. The case, initially registered at Mapusa Police Station, was transferred to the CB on January 7 this year for further investigation.
As per details submitted in the application to the Court, two Bangladeshi nationals, Raju B and Safikul, were earlier arrested and chargesheeted along with other accused who were then absconding. The CB subsequently made further progress after Delhi CB arrested six persons in April in connection with an alleged plan to commit dacoity.
“Five of them were later brought to Goa on transfer warrants and arrested in connection with the Mapusa robbery case. During their interrogation, the accused disclosed their involvement in the robbery along with Mohd Nasir, another Bangladeshi national. Nasir was subsequently brought to Goa from Delhi and arrested in the case in June,” it said.
The CB had already obtained court permission to add him as an accused and filed a supplementary chargesheet against him on August 31.
With fresh revelations linking Khan with the offense, who was not named in the original chargesheet, the CB sought to add him as an accused and file a supplementary chargesheet.
“During the course of interrogation, certain additional facts and evidence have emerged which disclose the involvement of accused Sohail Khan,” Palekar stated in the application, which was allowed.
