The institution is now ranked among the best institutions in the country imparting education in Commerce, Arts, Science, Management and Technology. NAAC grants the A grade accreditation after going through an extensive process, evaluating the college on several parameters. Only six out of 25 colleges in Goa have got the A grade NAAC accreditation so far. “A three-member NAAC peer team visited the college, last month for re-accreditation (third cycle). In its report, the NAAC team has appreciated the clean campus, pleasant and friendly ambience and modern infrastructure including ICT enabled classrooms, Wi-fi campus and CCTV cameras for students safety,” said Dr D B Arolkar, Principal of DMC while addressing the media in the college conference hall on Tuesday. “The college was appreciated for its innovative teaching-learning methods and add-on courses like pottery, photography, digital storytelling, NCCMP, etc,” he added. DMC is the only college in the State that offers PhD facility in Chemistry. It s also one of the few colleges that offer MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The college also offers rare add-on courses like pottery and NCCMP “ a six-month National Stock Exchange certificate course that is open to public. “In the last five years, the management has weaved a state-of-the-art infrastructure in the campus spread over 80,000 sq mts and promoted a healthy teaching, learning and research environment that has catapulted the college to A grade status,” the principal said. The NAAC report said the college offers value-based education which focuses on holistic education while undertaking systematic efforts to preserve cultural heritage and sensitizing students on social issues by conducting activities like anti-plastic drive, blood donation, manthan “ an art exhibition promoting local artists with a social purpose. The report also commended the college for the policy to take care of the needs of the disadvantaged sections of the society, the high passing percentage of the students (around 90 per cent), high progression rate (around 40 per cent), low dropout rate (0.99 per cent), good campus placement and a number of short term skill-based certificate courses for students. As part of its future plans, the college proposes to start MA in English and MSc in organic chemistry. The college also plans to start a training centre in co-operative sector and a course on hospitality industry. Dnyanprassarak Mandal s chairman Srikrishna Pokle and secretary Professor Surendra Sirsat also spoke.
