Assault, rioting in Tivim: Cops nab 3, on lookout for 12 others

Mapusa Police on Monday arrested three and is on the lookout for 12 others in an assault and rioting case in Maddel-Tivim.  

Based on the complaint of one, Mahesh Karbhari from Maddel, Tivim, police arrested three accused, Nikil Agarwadekar and his brother Nihal Agarwadekar and Abdul Panwala all from Carrasvaddo, Mapusa early Monday morning.  

According to the complainant, around 15 persons forced their entry into his house and slapped and kicked him and damaged property on Sunday at around 8 pm.  

Police said the attack was in retaliation to previous enmity between the brother of complainant, Sanjay Karbhari and the accused persons.  

The accused first stopped at a shop near the complainant’s house and made inquiries about the complainant’s brother.  

When the shop owner failed to give them adequate information, the accused roughed up the owner of the shop and then proceeded to the complainant’s house, police informed.  

Since the door was shut from inside, the accused first stoned the house and broke some window panes and then kicked the door open and entered in.  

The brother of the complainant who was in the bathroom escaped from the back door of the house after hearing the ruckus in front.  

The accused then entered the house slapped and roughed up the complainant and even smashed the household goods, police said.  

The accused have been arrested under Section 143, 147, 148, 422, 427, 506 (ii), 323, 324 r/w 149 of the IPC.
