Agonda has been ranked as the world’s 22nd best beach and the lone beach in the country which figures in top 25 beaches of the world, according to the world's leading travel website, TripAdvisor.
According to TripAdvisor’s 2016 Travellers' Choice Awards, as awarded by millions of real travellers, Agonda beach was reviewed as ‘super peaceful’ and a great beach. It was also ranked as the TripAdvisor's fourth best beach in Asia for 2016.
In the TripAdvisor website, Agonda beach has been described as “Serene, tranquil beach, far from the maddening crowd. Ideal place for meditation, sun worshipping or reading.”
Incidentally, Agonda Beach has been regularly winning accolades by TripAdvisor for the past four years. Agonda beach was ranked the second best beach in Asia for 2013 and it had also ranked as among the top 25 beaches in Asia in 2014. Agonda was also ranked Asia's sixth best beach in 2015.
“It's a privilege and honour for the people of Agonda to see our beach figure in the top 25 beaches of the world,” said Panch and ex-sarpanch Pramod Phaldesai.
“Agonda has figured in the top 25 beaches of Asia for the fourth year in a row, even though the government has virtually ignored the beach coast,” Phaldesai added.
Former sarpanch Jovi Fernandes was also pleased to hear the news. “Kudos to our villagers and we thank God for blessing our village with natural beauty, which has been repeated recognised by travellers from all over the world,” said Fernandes.
A CNN internet report on Wednesday states TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice reviewers had voted Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos as the world's best beach.
“Baia do Sancho in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, standing at the top for two years running, has been edged out by a sweeping crescent of sand on the north shore of the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos,” states the CNN report.
Incidentally, Asia's No 1 beach, according to TripAdvisor reviews, is Ngapali Beach in Myanmar and it ranks eighth on the global list.
TripAdvisor also ranked award-winning beaches for various regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, the South Pacific and Europe.
