Convenor of Panchayat Raj Institutions and former Curtorim deputy Sarpanch, J Santan Rodrigues has urged the election authorities to rectify the draft delimitation of the panchayat wards of Curtorim village.
In a petition, Santan pointed out there is no continuity maintaining while adding or reducing the wards. For instance, he said the Ward Madel has been added to Bandol which is separated by a permanent water canal which brings the entire storm water right from Ralloi Lake to the River Zuari. Further, there is a bundh with coconut trees on both sides and a road in between. “Then there is extensive paddy field which we call Sirgem Addi, with two crops. The distance between the two wards without any house is around 400 metres. Why these two wards could not be added to the contiguous wards,” he questioned.
Saying that existing wards have also been changed, Santan said if a part of the main ward has been merged with another, there was no need to change the existing ward.
He further said the numbers of the wards have also not been maintained and new numbers have been given without ensuring continuity of numbering of wards. This will also create problem while reserving seats for women as the same seats may be repeated for elections.
