Two labourers test positive for monkey fever

The district health department has begun an awareness campaign against Kyasanur Forest Desease which is commonly known as monkey fever in the region, after several labourers from four villages in western Khanapur taluka working in Goa were feared to have contracted the disease.
A team of officials under the guidance of DHO Dr Appasaheb Naratti are working overtime to create awareness and initiate preventive measures in this connection.
Several labourers from four villages in western Khanapur taluka working in Goa were tested for KFD. The samples showed two cases of monkey fever.
“Though all those having symptoms were not infected with monkey fever, we are facing a tough time in persuading the villagers and creating awareness among them about the actual symptoms of the disease. However, our task has become comparatively easy as only two samples were found positive of the disease. We are initiating all the preventive measures to control the possible outbreak of the disease in Khanapur taluka,” Dr Naratti told media persons.
The team of officials, who have been camping in the villages, have identified the labourers from all the villages in western Khanapur taluka, who were working in Goa since last two months.
“We have continued with our campaign of providing preventive oil to the villagers and have prepared a plan to carry out the preventive vaccination,” Dr Ravi Kiran who was accompanying the team of specialists from Kyasanur forest area.
Dr Naratti said that the campaign would continue for a few more weeks till all the villagers are vaccinated.
