People from Pernem have welcomed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s decision to allot sports portfolio to Azgaonkar once again.
“Though many children love sports, they do not participate in it, fearing that they will get less marks in the exams but now due to the sports policy, sportsmen are entitled for sports marks (points) in the exams and now many children will take interest in sports,” Azgaonkar told The Goan.
When asked about unavailability of grounds in most of the villages in Pernem taluka, he said once international stadium is constructed, then all the needs will be met. “If any one provides land, I will give them the ground having all the facilities,” he assured.
Sports lovers from Pernem have appealed to the sports minister to complete the work of the ground at Sawalwada-Pernem, which is pending.
When Azgaonkar was the sports minister in the Parrikar government some years ago, he had acquired land at Dhargal for sports village. However, the acquisition matter is now pending in the court.
