Yet to find any takers for its proposal to build the waste-processing plant at Bainguimim, the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has for the fifth time extended the deadline for companies to file their bids.
The GWMC issued a corrigendum to its tender notice on Friday and asked interestested firms to submit their bids by December 16.
The proposal seeks companies to to design, engineer, build, operate and maintain the 100-tonne per day solid waste treatment plant wort Rs 120-crore.
The tender was originally floated back in September and GWMC has extended the deadline for submitting the bids four times before Friday. Some companies have shown interest but most of them have either sought clarifications or relaxation in technical qualification or number of years of experience terms.
The issue of setting up the plant in Bainguinim principally to cater to the solid waste of Panaji and surrounding fast-urbanizing areas has been ongoing since 2008 when the Corporation of the City of Panaji had acquired the land.
A citizens group from the area with overt support of the Church had strongly opposed locating the plant there arguing that it would harm the interest of the nearby heritage site of the Old Goa church complex.
The 1.71 lakh square meters of land was handed over to the SWMC by the CCP in 2017 after which a public hearing was conducted and environment clearance obtained to build the plant there.
