In a bid to end the menace of broken beer bottles in public places, the State government is contemplating to stop the sale of chilled beer at retail and wholesale shops.
To do this, government may even amend the law to halt sale of chilled beer bottles across retail counters.
At the recent Swacch Bharat Mission awareness programme, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured panch members that he would not allow retailers to serve chilled beer.
“The chief minister has given us assurance that he will not allow sale of chilled beer at retail stores,” Vijay Dalvi, panch member of Salvador-do-Mundo told The Goan.
Dalvi said a lot of youngsters create nuisance by drinking beer and dumping empty bottles near the Ganesh visarjan site in the village.
“What’s even worse, these people break bottles and dump them at the site which creates a problem for us at the time of Ganesh visarjan. The broken bottle pieces can hurt our children,” the panch said.
Dalvi said he had raised the question at the awareness programme and CM had assured to find a solution to and stop sale of chilled beer bottles at the retailers.
When contacted, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar did not deny govt’s plans to ban sale of chilled beer by retailers.
“Wait for the order,” said Parrikar, when The Goan approached him at the sidelines of a function at Verla-Canca on Saturday.
