MARGAO
The Aam Aadmi Party camp was in a jubilant mood with party leaders expressing their satisfaction over the voter turnout, exuding confidence of winning the by-poll with a comfortable margin.
In fact, party leaders AAP chief Amit Palekar and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas thanked the voters and the INDI Alliance leaders for their support and leaving the seat for AAP in the by-poll. Both Amit and Venzy went to the extent of saying the people of Benaulim have decisively voted for the INDI Alliance, saying it will be a victory of the INDI Alliance how the Alliance should move forward as far as Goa is concerned.
Briefing the media after polling ended at 5 pm, Venzy thanked the people of the five villages to protect democracy and for the unity of Goa. “The verdict will be to maintain the unity. There were lots of pressures against the Alliance. We have to sustain this unity. I am confident that Benaulim has given a lead in this direction and showed positiveness. Credit goes to the leaders and supporters of the INDI Alliance,” he said as he thanked party president Amit Palekar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MLA Altone D’Costa, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, NCP chief Jose Philip D’Souza and the Shiv Sena for supporting the party in the by-poll.
“When I was moving around the booths, people wished to tell they have come out to vote for INDI Alliance to save Goa in 2027. They said they did not want to put the Alliance to sham. I felt so happy that people have come out to vote for this unity and Alliance,” he added.
