The Cyber Crime Police have arrested a 25-year-old Bengaluru resident in connection with a Rs 35.90 lakh digital arrest fraud reported by a Margao resident.
The accused, identified as Mohankumar G, allegedly impersonated an official from Andheri Police Station to commit the fraud.
According to Goa Police, the complainant was told that her bank account was linked to terrorist activities.
The accused allegedly threatened her with legal action and coerced her into transferring Rs 35,90,200 through RTGS.
Police said Rs 9.8 lakh of the defrauded amount was credited to the accused’s bank account between August 6 and 12.
A Cyber Crime team arrested Mohankumar in Bengaluru and produced him before a court, which remanded him to four days’ police custody.
