Bhati locals submit petition to PWD over water woes

SANGUEM

With no concrete steps from the PWD to resolve the acute shortage in drinking water supply at Kumari, Villian and Dapodem wards of Bhati Village Panchayat, a group of villagers led by panchayat member Vishranti Gaonkar on Tursday handed over a memorandum to the Sanguem Executive Engineer (Water Supply) Subodh Shirodkar

In their memorandum, the villagers highlighted their problems on account of taps having run dry in the village for the past seven days.

Speaking to Shirodkar, they claimed that locals, in particular senior citizens, have had to carry huge utensils from the water tanker to their homes.

In his reply to the memorandum, AE Shirodkar informed the affected villagers that all efforts are being made from his end to regulate drinking water supply in the village at the earliest.

Shirodkar informed that his office has proposed the construction of a new bore well in the village and the work pertaining to the same will begin in next couple of days.

He also informed that efforts are also on to connect the drinking water pipeline in the village to the JICA water pipeline so that the drinking water woes could be resolved at the earliest.

He assured the villagers that they would get the water supply restored in the village by January 23 and till that time, assured of temporary arrangement of water supply through a water tanker on a daily basis.

The villagers informed Shirodkar that they would lead an agitation to the water supply department if their demands are not met by January 23, as assured by him.
