This year, many farmers from villages like Menkurem, Vhawti, Vathadev, Sal, Latambarcem, Vadawal, Vhalshim, Mulgao and other areas in Bicholim taluka had come forward to undertake paddy cultivation and other types of plantation. However, wild boars, peacocks, bisons and other wild animals have started destroying grown up paddy, which was fast approaching harvesting, putting the farmers into acute misery facing losses. “All our efforts are wasted as like every year this year too our grown-up plantations have been destroyed by the wild animals,” said Gurudas Parab a farmer whose farm was destroyed by wild boars. Similar is the fate of Ratikant Parab, Nhanu Naik, Abali Parab and other farmers. Plantation like red chillies, vegetables, onions, potatoes and bananas have been totally destroyed by wild animals and birds. Some of the farmers said that their farms have fencing; however, these do not stand a chance as wild animals break these down and enter the farms and destroy crops. They also pointed out that once the fences are destroyed by wild animals usually at night, then during the day domestic animals find it easy to enter the fields and graze on mature paddy.
