Though the party has mostly retained the candidature of their sitting legislatures, prominent among those whose names do not figure in the list are Agriculture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and Speaker Anant Shet. Nonetheless, in absence of ailing St Cruz MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, his brother has been picked up for candidature.
The party is likely to release the list of candidates for the remaining 11 constituencies in the next two days.
Sitting MLAs whose names figure in BJP’s list released on Thursday are Laxmikant Parsekar (Mandrem), Rajendra Arlekar (Pernem), Kiran Kandolkar (Tivim), Francis D’Souza (Mapusa), Dayanand Mandrekar (Siolim), Dilip Parulekar (Saligao), Michael Lobo (Calangute), Glen Ticlo e Souza (Aldona), Sidharth Kuncalienker (Panaji), Pramod Sawant (Sankhali), Mahadev Naik (Shiroda), Milind Naik (Mormugao), Carlos Almeida (Vasco), Alina Saldanha (Cortalim), Rajan Naik (Cuncolim), Nilesh Cabral (Curchorem), Ganesh Gaonkar (Sanvordem) and Subhash Phaldesai (Sanguem).
The two Congress MLAs who recently joined the BJP, Pandurang Madkaikar and Mauvin Godinho have been fielded from Cumbharjua and Dabolim constituencies respectively.
Others are Rajesh Patnekar (Bicholim), Guruprasad Pawaskar (Porvorim), Dattaprasad Naik (Taleigao), Hemant Golatkar (St Cruz), Ramrao Wagh (St Andre), Pradeep Shet (Marcaim), Damodar Naik (Fatorda), Sharmad Raiturcar (Margao), and Prakash Velip (Quepem).
With BJP yet to announce Shet and Tawadkar’s candidature, resentment seems to be brewing in the party camps at both these constituencies in the backdrop of both the legislatures already kickstarting their election campaign.
PTI in New Delhi adds: Refraining from projecting Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar as its chief ministerial candidate, JP Nadda, who is CEC secretary, said BJP has given representation to all communities and added that it is considering putting up candidates for all the 40 seats.
