CANACONA
The Canacona BJP handed over the keys to a house built under the party's ambitious 'Shram-Seva Dham' project to a family of Cotigao village.
The keys were handed over to Kamlakar Gaonkar and his wife of Baddem-Cotigao in the presence of Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Goa State BJP President Sadanand Tanawade, ex-Dy CM and BJP Vice President Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, SC/ST Commissioner Deepak Karmalkar, CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello, BJP General Secretary Satish Dhond and others on Saturday.
The Canacona BJP had taken up the task to construct two houses in Canacona, one at Cotigao and the other at Ziltawadi-Gaondongrim, for two families who had no proper shelter.
The foundation stone for both houses had been laid by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in April.
Incidentally, the house of Kamlakar Gaonkar did not even have mud walls and their shelter had been covered with a plastic sheet, when the chief minister had visited their home in April.
According to sources, party workers took it upon themselves to construct the house, with contributions and around Rs 4 lakh in cash was collected, besides other donations in kind.
Many party workers themselves worked in different capacities and the house was constructed at a cost of around Rs 12 Lakh.
The Canacona BJP has also undertaken to construct a house of late Somnath Mirashi of Ziltawadi-Gaondongrim and recently identified a third house to be built at Ordhofond.
