SALIGAO

Stating that BJP has fulfilled most of the assurances given in the manifesto of 2012 assembly election, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the State government is spending about Rs 1200 crore every month on various social welfare schemes formulated by it despite financial crunch resulting from closure of mining activities.

He was speaking at Saligao after distributing LED bulbs to the consumers of Reis Magos Panchayat.

Speaking further, Parriker said as assured, the State government after coming to power reduced the prices of petrol. “Petrol is now available in Goa at Rs 60 per litre, while prices of petrol in Bangalore and Delhi are Rs 70 and Rs 67 respectively,” he added.

“The ratio of male to female in Goa was 1000:911 in 2012. The girl child was treated as a burden on the family and it was for this reason that the Ladli Laxmi scheme has been introduced by the government,” said Parrikar.

“The purpose of Gruha Adhar scheme was to provide some money to housewives to meet urgent needs. Some families have bought refrigerators and other home appliances,” he said.

Parrikar further said the LED bulbs which are being distributed under Jyotirmay scheme of the Central government will not only help save substantial power for the country, but also reduce carbon emissions.

“Besides, it will encourage entrepreneurs to set up industries to produce LED bulbs which will generate employment opportunities.”

Speaking on LPG, he said so far 1.40 crore people in the country have given up the subsidy and the subsidy money saved is being utilized to provide LPG connections to the poor people.

In his welcome speech, Tourism Minister and Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar said during the last four years, 40,000 applications for Ladli Laxmi have been sanctioned and 1.39 lakh women have been covered under Gruha Adhar scheme. “The State government has spent nearly Rs 800 crore on these schemes during the last 4 years,” added Parulekar.

Shamba Tuenkar compered the programme.
