South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has said he had told the party High Command before hand that the party may bag around 1-3 seats in the recently held elections for the Nagaland Assembly, before the party ended up in losing the election by drawing a blank.
Saying party made some mistakes in Nagaland, which he would point out to the party High Command in his report, Sardinha, however, blamed the ruling BJP for not just spending money in Nagaland, but charged the saffron party for burning money in the North eastern state. "The BJP has not only spend huge resources in the election, but they have burnt the money. I had told our party leadership that the prevailing situation may give the Congress around 1-3 seats”, he said.
Interacting with the media after distributing three-wheelers to the disabled persons through his MPLAD scheme, Sardinha said the facility will not only make the disabled independent by standing on their own legs, but help the family and the neighbours as well. “Instead of being a burden on the family, the three-wheeler facility will make them a blessing to the family and the society”, he said.
The MP on Wednesday distributed four three-wheelers to the needy and the remaining four will be allotted to the beneficiaries on Sunday.
Referring to the fire incident at the Mahdei wild life sanctuary, Sardinha said the fire can be natural or a case of arson, but hastened to add that the Forest department should have a plan in place to meet such emergencies, by keeping the Navy stand by to help bring fire under control. “Prevention is better than cure. It is next to impossible to stop fire once it spread. The fire has to be doused before it spread to new areas”, he said.
The MP has expressed his surprise that the illegal Old Goa has still not been razed down till date when the authorities have confirmed the illegalities in its construction.
He repeated his plea to the government to start legal sand extraction in the state to bring down the price of sand. “The ban on sand extraction has only helped the corrupt officials to make money”, he added.
