BJP panels win in Bicholim

The panels backed by the BJP made a clean sweep by winning majority of the panchayats in Bicholim taluka. The BJP leaders from Bicholim taluka have claimed that the party has succeeded in retaining the BJP stronghold in the taluka and gave credit to the grassroots party workers.

The BJP-backed panels have won in almost 12 out of 16 panchayats in Bicholim taluka.  
Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar stated that the panels backed by BJP won in Latambarcem, Mulgao and Sal. “The Advalpal Panchayat will be in BJP’s favour too,” he said.  
Former MLA Naresh Sawal has claimed that Menkurem Panchayat is in his hold. He has credited this success to his grassroots level workers including ZP Sanjay Shetye.  
Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant has claimed victory for panels backed by the BJP in all the six panchayats including Navelim, Pale-Kothambi, Surla, Velguem, Amona and Kudnem. However, former Sakhali MLA Pratap Gawas said Navelim Panchayat has come under his leadership.  
In Mayem constituency, the panels backed by BJP has achieved success in most of the panchayats. Though the exact candidates fielded by BJP is not clear, it seems that former sarpanch Urvi Masurkar, who is from the BJP panel, has won again.  
In ward 6, Premendra Shet, the brother of former speaker Anant Shet, has won.  
Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye said most of the candidates who emerged victorious, are from the BJP panel. The six panchayats in Mayem are Mayem-Vaiginim, Karapur-Sarvan, Ona-Maulingem, Pilgao, Narvem and Shirgao.

In a mix bag verdict, voters elected new faces in many panchayats in Bardez at the cost of senior panch members while some old guards were re-elected is some other areas. rnMany fresh and young faces were elected in panchayats like Aldona, Moira, Pomburpa-Olaulim, Sirsaim, Assonora, Oxel, Assagao, Guirim etc.
