MARGAO
The BJP ST morcha has hailed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and party president, MP Sadanand Tanavade for successfully pursuing the issue of political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
ST morcha chief Prabhakar Gaonkar and vice-president Anthony Barbosa said they have no doubt that the Union Home Minister will place the issue at the Union Cabinet scheduled on Wednesday to appoint the Delimitation Commission to take the process of political reservations forward.
Addressing the media, Prabhakar Gaonkar said the BJP has always taken up cudgels for the ST community right from the beginning by recognising Gaudas, Kunbis and Velips as STs in the year 2003.
He said various other benefits and schemes for the ST community started flowing after the BJP returned back to power in the State in the 2012 Assembly election. “We are not rushing with the setting up of the Delimitation Commission with an eye on the Lok Sabha election,” he said.
Anthony Barbosa said both Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and party president Sadanand Tanavade successfully put across before the Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the delay in providing political reservations for the ST community.
