Terming the victory of the BJP in the states of Assam and Kerala as a huge success,
South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has exuded confidence that the BJP will retain power in Goa
in the 2017 Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an art exhibition at the Ravindra Bhavan on Saturday,
Sawaikar said that the BJP will go all out to win all the seats in the State based on the
performance of the Goa government and the government at the Centre.
“After coming to power in Goa four years ago, the BJP has tried to give good government to the
people of Goa. The policies of the Goa government and the Narendra Modi government at the Centre will keep the BJP in good stead in the coming election,” he said.
Asked whether the BJP is in favour of banning beef in the State on the lines of Maharashtra, the
South Goa MP said that Goa had enacted a legislation on beef, adding that there’s no need to
come out with any legislation in the State.
On the delay in bestowing scheduled tribe status for the Dhangar community, Sawaikar said he
has been pursuing the matter with the Registrar General of India as well as with the Centre. “We
will double our efforts in the coming weeks to ensure that Dhargars get the ST status,” he said.
