The Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) of Shrishthal-Poinguinim has undertaken a special study of the existence of the flora and fauna and had been visiting forests in the village, besides interacting with locals living in the forest.

The Poinguinim BMC under the chairmanship of environmentalist Subhash Mahale also undertook an activity to plant sandalwood saplings in the village.

Around 10 sandalwood saplings were planted at Chandana-Ped in Welwada, a well-known spot in the village, by the Poinguinim BMC in the presence of President of Parashuram Panchagram Committee Uday Prabhugaonker, President of Poinguinim Communidade Damodar Phalgaonker, Dy Sarpanch Sunil Painganker, panch Pravir Bhandari, BMC Chairman Subash Mahale, members Viraj Pai Khot and Gajanan Bandeker.

Incidentally, though it was said that a sandalwood tree had once existed, there is presently no Chandan tree at Chandana-Ped at Welwada. The BMC decided to give the significance to Chandana-Ped and planted 10 sandalwood saplings.

Shivanand Vaidhya and BMC coordinator Deepak Bowalkar were also present, while Sandesh Painginkar took the responsibility to nurture the plants.

BMC had recently carried out tree plantation drives in all schools of village, the Shradhanand Vidyalaya, St Anthony HS (Galgibaga), Balram Residential School (Amone), Govt High School (Sadolxem), Balram Higher Secondary (Ordhofond). Funds have been provided to nurture these saplings.

Besides, 700 cloth bags were stitched for the Biodiversity Management Board, while meetings were conducted at Marlim-Tirval, Mahalwada, Galgibaga, to get information and knowledge about the biodiversity of the localities to prepare a Public Biodiversity Report of Poinguinim.
