Two youth from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh were found dead at the world-acclaimed Palolem beach on Tuesday.
While the body of Supriya Dubey (26) was found lying at the Ourem side of Palolem beach at about 7 am on Tuesday, the body of Vibhu Sharma (27) was found floating at Ourem at about 1.45 pm.
According to Canacona Police, Supriya Dubey and her friend Vibhu Dubey had arrived together to Canacona on Sunday morning and had checked in at a hotel at Ourem side of Palolem beach.
According to sources, the couple was reportedly last seen together late Monday evening strolling and enjoying the beach at Palolem.
“No foul play is suspected. It may be an accidental drowning. However, all will be clear after a post mortem examination. Both bodies have been shifted to the District Hospital at Margao for preservation and post-mortem. The families of both deceased have been informed and they are arriving on Wednesday,” Canacona Police Inspector Gawas said.
According to police sources, Supriya was working for an IT company in Bangaluru and Vibhu Sharma reportedly working in a film industry.
They had arrived in Palolem on Sunday and had checked-in at a beach hotel. The couple checked out from their hotel at 11 am on Monday and were planning to check-in into another hotel on the same day.
When the body of Supriya and her mobile was found as early as 7 am on the shore, police reportedly tried to call Vibhu’s mobile, but found it switched off.
As police were still trying to locate Vibhu, a foreign national swimming in the sea noticed the body of Vibhu floating in the sea. The information was immediately passed on to the police, after which the lifeguards retrieved the body and brought it ashore.
Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas is conducting further enquiry under the guidance of DySP Sandesh Chodankar.
