The delegation of ‘Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa’ on Tuesday called on Deputy Election Commissioner RK Gupta in New Delhi and made a fervent plea to provide political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Goa.
The delegation warned that the STs will be constrained to commence a non-cooperation movement in the State by boycotting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
They further warned that they would be constrained to boycott the courts, government services, resign from the titles and refuse to pay the taxes. Gupta has assured the delegation to look into the matter.
The delegation also called on Prabhubhai Vasava, MP Lok Sabha from Gujarat and Kirodilal Meena, MP Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.
The delegation made a request to refer Article 324 and Article 327 of the Constitution; the Supreme Court judgement delivered in ‘Virendra Pratap and another v/s Union of India’ of 2012, the judgment of Allahabad High Court in the case of ‘Chandra Mani Prasad and 3 others v/s Union of India and another’ in Writ petition No 3078 of 2017 and issue necessary notification to reserve the seats for STs in Goa Assembly.
The delegation has also submitted representation in the office of the President of India and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.
The delegation made the MPs aware about the long pending demand of constitutional right of political reservation for STs.
Since the two MP’s were unaware about the same, the delegation then put forth before them the discrimination being done to the STs of Goa as it is the only State where seats are not reserved for STs in the Assembly and House of the people as per Article 330 and 332 of the Constitution of India
The delegation then discussed in detail about the options that are available within the framework of Constitution through which the issue can be resolved.
The two MPs Vasava and Meena has assured the delegation that they will raise the issue in the upcoming parliament session.
