Bomb scare on AI flight triggers panic at Dabolim

Panic gripped at Dabolim airport on Sunday, after the airport authority got a call stating that a bomb was planted in a Delhi-Goa Air India flight.

According to sources at Dabolim airport, soon after receiving the information, the airport authority alerted Vasco Police, ATS, CISF and the dog squad.

“The Air India flight soon after landing was immediately shifted to isolation area for security check,” informed a source.

Speaking to The Goan, Airport Director K S Rao said they received a call from Calangute Police stating that they received information that a bomb was planted on the Delhi-Goa Air India flight.

“After getting the information, we immediately alerted the Vasco Police, ATS, CISF and the dog squad,” said Rao.

“On landing, the Air India flight along with the passengers was shifted to the isolation bay for security check. After thorough check by CISF, nothing was found aboard. The flight was cancelled and will be kept at the isolation bay till Monday morning,” added Rao.

As far as the stranded passengers are concerned, Rao said the passengers will be flown to Delhi by a special Air India flight later in the night.

Mormugao DySP Sucheeta Dessai, who was present at the spot, said the passengers were offloaded through the emergency exit. “After frisking the passengers and their baggage, the passengers were taken to the airport terminal, while the flight was thoroughly checked by CISF,” said Dessai.
