Stating that the opposition MLAs missed a good opportunity to gain knowledge on procedures of the House, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said the decision to boycott the training session just because an organisation was conducting it was not appropriate.
Sawant also said that the chairman of various legislative committees in the State Assembly should work with the same vigour as they crave for chairmanship of corporations.
“I think boycotting the training session just because one organisation was conducting the programme is not right. They have not come with the intention to force their individual ideas on any members. The organisation is an expert body in its field and holds such training sessions in different parts of the country and for different political parties,” Sawant said.
The CM was addressing the MLAs and guests during the concluding function of the training session on the final day. Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana was the chief guest at the concluding event. Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar and other ministers, MLAs and leaders were also present.
The training session for MLAs was organised by the Goa Legislature Secretariat in association with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, a Pune-based research organisation.
The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party boycotted the two-day training programme because it was held in a five star resort and that the organisation conducting the session was an RSS affiliate.
Continuing, Sawant said the opposition, especially new MLAs, missed a good opportunity to learn the procedures of the House.
“I request the Speaker next time to hold such training in the Assembly hall so that the opposition can get an opportunity to take part in such resource sessions,” he said.
He also requested the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly to organise tours of different legislative committees so that they can go to different States and study the various committees in those States.
He admitted that for the last five years no such study tours were organised.
“The MLAs should move the proposal of organising such tours before the Speaker. The government is ready to give permission. They can do a tour of different committees and can visit various State Assemblies and even the Parliament,” he said.
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar and Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Satish Mahana also addressed the valedictory function of the training programme.
