Fearing there may be an attempt to destroy assembly records, former minister Sadanand Mallik has requested Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to order an enquiry into the destruction of assembly records while shifting the documents to the new assembly building.
"Going by speed of the government of taking over Goan land, pushing unwanted projects in Goa, pushing ahead with new legislations and amending Portuguese legislations, the restoration and preservation of old records are of vital importance,” said Mallik.
Mallik expressed shock over Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement on Monday that assembly records had been destroyed while shifting the documents to the new assembly building.
“I cannot believe this as I have obtained the Assembly debates of the Goa Daman and Diu Land Revenue Code 1968 and some other old bills from the new Assembly Complex,” said Mallik.
The former legislator has expressed fear that the government is planning to destroy the information or has already destroyed it.
"I have a fear that the government may be planning to destroy them now or has already destroyed them after shifting to a new complex to hide some information from the public domain,” said Mallik.
"Given the fact that the Goa Daman and Diu was annexed to Indian Union on December 19, 1961, and since the territory was not the part of Commonwealth and nor the British estate, the initial Assembly records are very important to know the issues that were debated in the Assembly after the takeover by India to preserve the separate identity of Goa,” said Mallik.
