The State cabinet on Wednesday approved recruitment of 97 posts at the Tuem Hospital on a contractual basis. The posts include consultants, multi-tasking staff and nurses.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the appointments will be temporary until regular recruitment is carried out through the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC).
The cabinet also cleared the appointment of a consultant for Tuem Hospital.
Sawant confirmed that despite objections from villagers, the hospital will be inaugurated on February 2. Local residents had urged the government to delay the opening until facilities and services were fully in place.
Other key cabinet decisions included approval to fill 15 contractual posts of lecturers and assistant professors in the departments of Microbiology, Surgery and Ophthalmology at Goa Medical College (GMC).
The move is expected to strengthen faculty at the sole medical college in the State and also improve patient care at the premier tertiary healthcare hospital.
In other significant administrative decisions the cabinet created a new post of Deputy Captain of Ports in the Captain of Ports Department and accorded the status of a 'department' to the Inspectorate of Factories and Boilers under the business rules of the government.
In another decision, the government approved filling of SC, ST and OBC seats for postgraduate courses at GMC as per the 100-point roster system.
Additionally, land belonging to the Art and Culture Department will be transferred to the Health Department for the proposed Tisk–Ponda medical project. The land had previously been transferred to the Art and Culture Department by the Health Department and is now being reversed, Sawant said.
21 new accountants
Meanwhile, at a brief ceremony following the cabinet meeting, the Goa government handed over appointment letters to 21 newly recruited accountants for the Directorate of Accounts.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant welcomed the recruits, noting they were selected through the Goa Staff Selection Commission.
He urged them to serve with integrity and uphold the merit on which they were chosen even as he highlighted that Public Works Department (PWD) engineers were recently appointed through the same process, underscoring the commitment to transparent recruitment. The new accountants are expected to strengthen financial management across departments.
