MARGAO
The vice-president of Mahila Shakti Abhiyan, Salcete block & former Sarzora sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas has called for streamlining the functioning of the Women and Child Development office in South Goa to ameliorate the hardships faced by women beneficiaries of government schemes.
In her petition to the Women and Child Development Director, Mascarenhas pointed out that she had just happened to be in the South Goa office when she came across a long line of beneficiaries, including senior citizens, pregnant women and children.
“I was told that the office had called beneficiaries to the Margao office for the survey to be done to avail of the Griha Adhar Scheme. This survey could be done in the panchayats on Saturdays where the Swayampurna Mitra is present... people were inquired and asked to come with the required documents by the department in-charge someday again,” she said.
She added: “We say this is women and child development office but today's scene was very sad, it's like troubling and tensing them more... there were even children present with their mothers.. and add to this heavy rains and the office on the fourth floor.”
Sabita has urged the Director for her intervention and help the women by taking this survey to the panchayats and to inform them in advance about the documents they have to carry in advance,” she added.
