A joint inspection of the two bridges, Assolna-Cavelossim and the Chinchinim-Orlim bridge, connecting the Salcete coastal belt has called upon the men-in-uniform to beef up security at the two bridges to keep anti-social activities at bay late nights.
Arranged by the MLAs of Velim and Benaulim, Cruz Silva and Venzy Viegas respectively and attended by officials of the PWD, electricity, besides representatives of the panchayats of Chinchinim, Orlim, Cavelossim and Assolna, it has been decided to request the police to intensify patrolling for three hours late nights between 11 pm and 2 pm to nip all anti-social activities in the bud.
Cruz informed that a meeting of the Police station in-charge of the Colva and Cuncolim will be held soon to discuss the modalities of how to go about the patrolling.
The Velim MLA pointed out that the inspection revealed that the two bridges were craving a coat of paint, besides illumination. He said the panchayats have been requested to install CCTV cameras on their respective side of the bridge to bring all activities on the radar.
