Carvalho ready to contest from Ward 20, Braganza weighs options

MAPUSA
Within hours of the announcement of the new reservation notification, murmurs started doing the rounds that former councillor and North Goa BJP District Committee Vice President Franky Carvalho may contest from Ward 20 of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).

Former MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza said he was yet to take a decision on contesting from any other wards.

When confronted, Carvalho admitted that there were chances of him contesting from Ward 20, if his party and the voters wanted him to do so. “Only if my party, my MLA and my people ask me to contest, I will take a plunge and contest from Ward 20,” Carvalho told The Goan.

Incidentally, at least 150 voters who were formerly in Ward 7 have been registered in Ward 20 for the municipal elections. These voters, however, come under the Aldona constituency during the assembly elections.

Wards 7 and 8 of the MMC come under Aldona constituency in the assembly elections.

Braganza said it was too early to take a call on contesting from any other ward. “No comments,” said Braganza, when asked if he fancied any chances in Ward 20, which is bordering his ward.
