Cattle menace dominates Xeldem gram sabha
Members inform that not a single policeman is found at the Tilamol junction

The issue of stray cattle menace dominated the Xeldem gram sabha on Sunday.
The gram sabha members resolved to appoint one more person to impound cattle in Xeldem panchayat area, as it becomes difficult for one person to handle so many stray cattle. It was also resolved to deploy one policeman at the main junction to avoid vehicular accidents. Some villagers complained that many stray cattle are seen at Tilamol junction and nearby area. It is also observed that the cattle squat on the main roads and run across the road, resulting in vehicular accidents and danger to the lives of commuters.
The panchayat members said they have a man who looks after the impounded cattle but it becomes a tedious job for him to handle so many cattle single handedly. The gram sabha members resolved to appoint one more person to work at the impound shelter.
The issue of traffic congestion was also raised at the gram sabha. The locals complained that traffic police are seen issuing fines to the commuters who don't wear helmets, but the actual necessity of their presence is at the Tilamol junction, where not a single traffic police is deputed.
The Tilamol junction is a major junction, where a regular traffic police is required, as ore transportation and heavy vehicles ply along the road. After discussing the issue, it was resolved to write to the traffic officials to depute a police personnel at the junction and it was also decided to inform Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral about the issue.
Sarpanch Pramod Gauns Dessai, Deputy Sarpanch Milagres Menezes and other panchas were present for the gram sabha.
