Although the legal team has given a clear opinion some 20 days ago to go ahead with the leave and license agreements with market tenants, the Corporation of the City of Panaji is seemingly reluctant to resolve the Panaji market imbroglio and has failed to list it on the agenda of the meeting slated for
Monday.
When asked about it CCP Mayor, Uday Madkaikar sought to duck the question and only said that another round of meetings will be held with the market occupants on Wednesday before taking a final
decision.
The issue of finalisation of agreement between the market occupants and the CCP is pending since 2013 and the delay has cost CCP dear in terms of revenue and maintenance of the market. Earlier this year after asking for fresh documents with declaration from shop occupants CCP had decided to take a legal opinion whether a leave in license agreement can be done. Now the legal team has already given its opinion in positive. But still CCP is delaying on the issue.
It was expected that the issue will be finalised in the upcoming CCP meeting but surprisingly the subject is not listed in the agenda of the meeting.
POWER DUES:The Corporation of City of Panaji has agreed to pay Rs one crore to the power department by October 15. State Power Department had disconnected the power supply to the Panaji market after CCP failed to pay the outstanding bills.
Madkaikar said that the dues have been pending for last 19 years. He said that the billing also includes the electricity that was consumed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation while constructing the complex.
