Citizens of the capital city will get an opportunity to air their views on the draft coastal zone management plan as well as the coastal regulation zone notification of 2018 as the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has arranged a public consultation on October 11.

Officials of the CCP said the consultation on the draft CZMP as well as the CRZ Notification 2018 issued by the centre will be held between 10 am and 1 pm at the corporation’s hall.

According to officials, documents and plans of the CZMP as well as the new CRZ notification are on display at the CCP office.

Inputs and suggestions are to be submitted to the CCP office on any working day between 10 am and 5 pm, a public notice issued by the corporation said.

The CCP has jurisdiction over a vast area restricted for development by the country’s environmental laws. It is also struggling to ward off stiff opposition to a proposal to designate

‘blue flag certified,’ the city’s famous Miramar beach.

In fact a public consultation process pertaining to the certification of Miramar beach as ‘blue flag’ was opposed by local citizens and members of the fishing community who vociferously opposed the government-backed proposal citing it to be the future cause of displacing locals a

nd obstructing access to the beach.
