The year-long birth centenary celebrations of Loknayak Anant (Babu) Narcinva Naik began on Wednesday with an inaugural function at the MCC Hall and the release of the documentary Loknayak, highlighting his life, values and legacy. The documentary features interviews with political leaders, entrepreneurs, social activists, artists, educationists, social workers, friends and family members. It also includes rare photographs and records from the Goa Legislative Assembly, offering glimpses into Naik’s political journey and contribution to Goa.
Delivering the keynote address, nuclear scientist Dr Rajendra Kakodkar stressed the importance of religious and cultural institutions in strengthening society.
He said such institutions remain important pillars of society and must be recognised and nurtured for future generations.
Centenary committee chairman Shrinivas V Dempo said Naik had strong views on Goan identity and culture and always stood for the poor and voiceless. He said programmes would be held throughout the year to introduce younger generations to Naik’s work and legacy.
