With Goa’s traditional words, expressions and linguistic heritage at risk of fading away, the Directorate of Official Language has launched an initiative to preserve the State’s linguistic legacy by inviting proposals under three schemes for 2026-27.
The schemes aim to document endangered words, record village traditions and promote literary activities in Konkani and other languages.
Under the ‘Amcho Ganv, Amchi Parampara, Amchem Daiz’ scheme, Goans and writers have been invited to document and preserve village traditions, rituals, customs, culture and heritage. The scheme provides financial assistance for publishing selected unpublished or translated manuscripts. Only unpublished or translated manuscripts will be considered, with selected works being evaluated by a committee.
The ‘Bhasha Vikas Yojana’ invites proposals from registered institutions to organise literary programmes in Konkani in Devanagari script, Marathi, Hindi or Sanskrit. Institutions must have a valid registration certificate and at least three years’ experience in organising such programmes. Eligible institutions can receive grants of up to 80 per cent of admissible expenses.
The third initiative, ‘Lokbhasha Sangrah Yojana’, focuses on documenting words and expressions that are at risk of disappearing. Vernacular language experts and lexicographers have been invited to prepare English-Konkani or English-Konkani-Marathi vocabularies featuring endangered words, as well as terms linked to Goan culture, customs and traditions.
Applicants under this scheme can submit a sample of up to five pages of vocabulary or related material for consideration by an expert committee. The Directorate will decide the honorarium and bear the cost of publishing selected works. The last date for submitting applications is November 30.
