The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a family along with the children was engrossed at the giant wheel when the alleged accuse set his eyes on the gold chain in the neck of the child. He, however, did not realise that he had already come under the scanner of the girl's uncle Henry Peixoto, who was accompanying the family. "Initially, I though the accused was just staring at the girl when we were all near the giant wheel. I saw that he was behind us, but I did not suspect his intention", Henry recalled.
Moments later, however, the accused put his hand on the child's neck with a handkerchief and snatched the chain before throwing it on the ground. "I could see the handkerchief and the chain lying on the ground, and before the accused could make good his escape, he was nabbed and the chain recovered", Henry said. The accused was later handed over to a PCR van.
