Farmagudi ITI students boycott classes, want transferred instructors back

PONDA
About 100 trainees of ITI Farmagudi-Ponda on Wednesday boycotted classes demanding to bring back their instructors who were transferred recently.
It may be recalled that following the suspension of Vocational Instructor (Practical) Roque Coelho over allegations by trainees, Group Instructor Vishnu Naik and Principal S S Gaonkar of ITI-Farmagudi were suspended by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSD&E).
After the incident, instructors from several ITIs in the State were transferred. About 12 instructors from ITI Farmagudi were transferred, resulting in boycotting the classes by the trainees.
"The transfers of instructors have affected our studies. Our instructors used to teach us on their personal laptops. Now, we don't know whether new instructors will teach us in the same way, as ITI has not provided us computers," a trainee of civil draughtsman trade told media persons.
Assistant director Rajesh Lolienkar, who has been given charge of ITI Farmagudi, said the process of purchasing computers and software is in process. "We will give all the facilities to trainees. The purchase is under process. If trainees don't join the classes, they will do their own loss as they won't be able to answer exams if attendance drops below 80 per cent," Lolienkar said.
The circular sent by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on November 10 states that "ITIs trainees are being instigated and forced to resort to acts of indiscipline to further personal interest of instructors related to service matters."
"Government has taken serious view of these acts of indiscipline and misconduct resorted by ITI trainees and also of apparent attempts being made by instructors and others to further their personal interest related to service matters by instigating their trainees and forcing them to resort to such acts of indiscipline and misconduct."
"Now therefore, principals of all government ITIs are hereby directed that they shall take strict action in accordance with rules and guidelines in force against any acts of indiscipline or misconduct resorted to by their ITI trainees."
"If a principal is found to be negligent in this respect and if any acts of indiscipline or misconduct on the part of the trainees come to the notice of the government, the principal will be held responsible for dereliction of duty and action deemed fit shall be initiated," stated the circular.
Lolienkar however said the trainees have submitted memorandums requesting to bring back their instructors. "Trainees should concentrate on studies rather than boycotting the classes," he said.
