The Chinchinim gram sabha on Sunday authorised the village panchayat to approach the courts to challenge the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) in coordination with other village panchayat bodies.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Inacinha Rebello, gram sabha members vehemently opposed the CZMP, pointing out a host of anomalies, adding that suggestions and inputs made by the panchayat and villagers have not been considered by the government.
Gram sabha members also resolved that the panchayat should not grant any construction licences for mega housing projects in the panchayat jurisdiction.
Members demanded to know the status of the proposal to notify the Durga fields as they strongly objected to any such proposal. The sarpanch replied back saying the panchayat has already forwarded the resolution objecting to the wetland notification to the government.
Members raised the issue of vendors squatting in the market area, disrupting vehicular traffic on the main road.
During discussions on the budget estimates for the financial year 2021-22, the members demanded that the panchayat in future should call a meeting with the villagers to discuss the estimates before the proposals are placed before the gram sabha for approval.
