The Benaulim MLA further disclosed plans to take up construction of the incomplete Benaulim-Navelim bridge, adding that Chief Minster, Manohar Parrikar has given his go ahead signal for the resumption of work on the abandoned bridge.
“Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was seen hugging his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa and also sought cooperation. Our very people had insulted the Portuguese Prime Minister during his visit to Goa. I would like to ask these people what they have to say on Prime Minister Modi hugging and embracing Antonio Costa in Portugal,” Churchill asked.
The Benaulim MLA pointed out that while there may be good or bad things of Portuguese rule over Goa, the Portuguese have kept the Passport facility for the local Goan population, which has helped the youth to make a living. “Because of the Portuguese passport, nearly 70 per cent of local population, including the minority community could go abroad for employment. With Goa facing dark days because of the impact on the ban on mining and with tourism and real estate business down, I have no idea how the local government will manage the State finances,” Churchill said.
On the Mopa airport, Churchill said he has no idea how two airports can sustain themselves in a small State like Goa, adding that experience shows that the Civil Aviation Ministry had in the past shut down airports after the construction of new ones.
On the Benaulim-Navelim bridge, Churchill said that Chief Minster, Manohar Parrikar has agreed to
resume work on the bridge. When it was pointed out that there’s still opposition to the bridge from the Navelim side, Churchill wondered why some people are hell bent in putting spokes in development.
