PORVORIM

Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has said clock towers would facilitate the smooth movement of vehicular traffic in different parts of Porvorim constituency.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a clock tower at the junction near Ghadge Maharaj hall at Porvorim in the presence of ZP member Kavita Naik, former sarpanch of Penha de Franca Manisha Naik, former panch members Swapnil Chodankar, Shalu Gupta, Rajan Parsekar, Sanjay Pednekar and President of Rotary Club of Porvorim Sagar Govekar.

“There has been tremendous increase in traffic on the internal roads of Porvorim on account of increase in vehicle population. Hence, traffic management has become of utmost importance.”

“There are several halls near Gadgemaharaj Hall and during any function, especially marriages, there used to be traffic chaos and many accidents have taken place at this junction due to rash driving.”

“Responding to the request of Penha de Franca panchayat, the Rotary Club of Porvorim erected a Clock Tower to facilitate smooth movement of vehicular traffic. Such clock towers will also be erected in Salvador do Mundo and Socorro villages,” said Khaunte.

Stating that sustainable development can be achieved only with the support of people and organisations, the minister advised people to submit their developmental proposals in the interest of public.

President of Rotary club of Porvorim Sagar Govekar thanked the Panchayat of Penha de Franca for offering clock tower project to Rotary club.

“This project has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3 lakh and we would be interested in taking up such development projects in Porvorim, if there are proposals from panchayats,” said Govekar.

Former sarpanch of Penha de Franca Manisha Naik also spoke on the occasion.
