MARGAO
Congress party’s Chief Ministerial candidate “ State Congress president Luizinho Faleiro and former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat “ have said the question of the Congress Legislative Party leadership will be left to the Congress high command to decide in the event the party returns to power, but hastened to add that they will not shirk any responsibility entrusted to them by the party leadership.
Both Faleiro and Kamat told the media in Margao and Navelim on the day of polling that the Congress will storm back to power in the State in this election, saying the Goans by and large have come out in large numbers to vote out the BJP from power.
“I can say with confidence that there was a wave in favour of the Congress. I had put in hard efforts to build the party in all the 40 constituencies. The decision not to fall prey to pressures is paying the party handsomely," he said.
When asked whether he would be in the race for the post of Chief Minister in the event the Congress returns to power, Faleiro said, “Let us not discuss about it. We have got certain procedure to follow. But, I am positive that the Congress will form the government. We will leave the question to the high command. What’s important was leading the party and getting it victorious, that is the greatest blessing from God and the people."
Digambar Kamat, on the other hand, said he has never shirked the responsibility entrusted to him, right from the time he became a councillor to an MLA, Minister and Chief Minister. “I will not run away from challenges, but the party leadership in Delhi will decide the question of CLP leadership. In the past, I was never in the race for the CM’s post, but God had blessed me and Ms Gandhi had selected me to lead the party government," Kamat added.
