Announcing this at a press conference, president of the Samiti, Damu Naik said prize money worth Rs 10 lakhs will be awarded for the winning floats and Romatmel troupes. He said a sum of Rs 6 lakh will be contributed by the Tourism Department while the balance sum of Rs 4 lakh will be spent by the Madgaon Shigmo Utsav Samiti.
The prizes for Romtamel troupes are as follows: Rs 1,01,111 (first prize), Rs 80,000 (second prize), Rs 60,000 (third prize), Rs 50,000 (fourth prize), Rs 40,000 (fifth prize), Rs 30,000 (sixth prize), Rs 20,000 (seventh prize) and five consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each.
In the Chitrarath (floats) category, the prizes are as follows: Rs 75,000 (first prize), Rs 60,000 (second prize), Rs 50,000 (third prize), Rs 30,000 (fourth prize), Rs 20,000 (fifth prize), Rs 15,000 (sixth prize), Rs 12,000 (seventh prize), Rs 10,000 (eighth prize). 10 consolation prizes of Rs 7,000 each and five consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each have also been announced in this category.
The total prize money for the Romtamel category stands at Rs 3,81,111 while the Chitrarath (floats) have a total prize money pegged at Rs 3,92,000.
Many other prizes in the folk dance, fancy dress categories are also announced.
The Samiti is led by Damu Naik with Damu Ramnath Naik, Sharmad Raiturkar, Jayesh naik and Raju (Hadlee) Shriodkar as its other members.
