Colmorod-Navelim mishap claims life of pedestrian

A late night road accident at Colmorod-Navelim on Saturday claimed the life of a pedestrian Shirish Pai Kane.

Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik informed that the Margao police have arrested the driver of the white colour tourist taxi Sameer Hublikar, a resident of Mostimol, near ITI Canacona in connection with the accident.

The office of the Superintendent of Police, South, in a press release, has stated that on August 24 at around 21.45 pm, the accused driver, Sameer Hublikar drove his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, from Margao towards Navelim village and when reached near Cremaux Cake Shop, Calmorod-Navelim dashed against pedestrian Kane, resident of Bhavani Sadan, Mahalasa Auto Service, Colmorod, Navelim.

The police said the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was knocked down by the speeding car, causing him grievous bleeding injuries on the head and other parts of the body.

Police said the injured pedestrian was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital, for treatment and further referred to the GMC Bambolim where he succumbed to his injuries. The police are investigating.
