The Raia gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Peter Quadros went a step further not only to pass a resolution in support of Konkani in Roman script, but to erect a statue of the Father of Opinion Poll Jack de Sequeira in the village.
The resolutions in support of the demand for equal status for Konkani were passed unanimously at the gram sabha meetings.
The gram sabha members have demanded that the panchayats forward the resolutions to the Commissioner, Linguistic Minorities seeking justice for Konkani in Roman script.
Meanwhile, president of the Global Konknni Forum Kennedy Afonso has thanked the gram sabha members of the village panchayats across the State for adopting unanimous resolutions in support of the demand to accord equal status for Konkani in Roman script.
Afonso said the growing support for the demand to give equal status for Konkani in Roman script only goes to show that people want the government to set right the injustice meted out to Konkani in Roman script 36 years ago.
